On approach to NAS Oceana in late 1988 this VF-74 Tomcat wore the toned down markings which were common at that time. She was written off in early 1993 and her remains are recorded as dumped at NAD Norfolk.
Seen just before overflying the fence at Oceana, this Viking was SOC after her undercarriage collapsed during an emergency landing on the USS Theodore Roosevelt in Arabian Sea Jan 9, 2002.
Photographed from just outside the perimeter fence at NAS Oceana on a very dark day in November 1988, this VF-31 'Tomcats' F-14A Tomcat is believed to be Bu.No 159020. This was in the transitional days before lo-vis markings became the norm.
The Tomcat fleet is heading toward its retirement. After a repaint, this example is showing a retro color scheme. This aircraft made its last flight on the 20th September 2005 to the Castle air museum, Atwater, California.
A gloomy morning spent under the approach to Oceana resulted in this F-4S operated by VMFA-321 out of Andrews AFB MA. She was subsequently converted to QF-4S standard and was SOC on 9th September 2004.
