Hi all,
I have to admit, I have a hard time telling the difference between an F-4C and an F-4D Phantom. How can you tell? What are the distinguishing features? I was looking at this photo
and thought it was a D, then I look at the info and nope, it's a C. -Ray |

Hi Ray,
the most discernible external difference between the -C and -D is the additional bulge attached under the IR-seeker below the radome. Regards |

Oh yes, I see it now. Thanks Andreas! If it wasn't for that, it'd be very hard to distinguish the two.

There is someone still flying this military aircraft around the world?
I think the last one using in real operations shall be the Greeks? If you think you got a disease, go medical. Do not wait! |

Quote Quite a number of Ds used by the USAF had no IR seeker beneath the radome as its usefulness was questioned. These Ds formed the base for the F-4Ks and Ms the British bought that were fitted with the Spey engines. Every flight has to end, cleared to land! :D |

Also, the fairing just above the rudder is slightly pointier on a C-model than on a D-model.
