Good morning, I do hope everyone is keeping well!

Okay, so I've decided that I should probably swallow whatever little pride I do have, and ask you guys your thoughts and opinions on the photo I'm going to post here.

The photo in question was taken at Red Flag 23-2 and, as I'm sure many of you know already, the morning departures are difficult to shoot at best, due to lighting conditions...in short, the aircraft being backlit is a major issue. Obviously the future recommendation will be to try and bag the later departures if/as able, and to acquire a lens with more reach (currently shooting Canon 7D w/100-400mm).

That said, regarding what I have already...is there any saving this photo whatsoever, and if so, what would you guys recommend I do differently in processing said photo?

Please be as candid as possible. Constructive criticism is most helpful as I continue to learn with each photo...as is humility on my part. HAHA

Many thanks in advance.

- Jaysen

Hi Jaysen,

I'd say that the photo is generally fine, so you master your current equipment, and it is not a bad equipment either. For Nellis maybe (personally I have never been there...) a bit too short, but looking at the shot you can produce some nice results. Others go for the longer 'sports zoom' lenses up to 600mm, which produce pretty impressive results as well, if you do not want to invest in a longer prime lens.

The equipment however will not help you when the lighting is bad, and that is what 'ruins' that shot. Angle is good, it is sharp, there is some action (vapor), but the lighting is just ... well... not ideal.
In this case I would look for another photo spot, or just shoot at some completely other place and go there when I know that the overall conditions will be better.

Regards

Andreas

Thanks, Andreas...I appreciate your input!

The lighting that morning certainly was not in my favor. I have managed to get a fairly good handle on my equipment, though I ALWAYS have room for learning and improvement. That said, some shots just don't work out...and this is one of them, it seems.

I'm on a fixed budget unfortunately, so buying a prime lens is likely out of the question for me for at least the foreseeable future. I may be able to acquire something like a Sigma 150-600mm in the future though, as I've heard good things about its reach and the image quality that lens helps to produce. Only time will tell there.

Time to try again next time I'm there, whatever the case.

Thanks again!

Topic: Dealing with Improved Photos

Dear Administrators, this is the first time that I recently got an E-Mail regarding the rejection of my Photo and the following improvisations to be done. Then, I improved as per Screeners' revision. And so on, the Improved Photo was accepted but with an addition of screeners' comments in my E-Mail regarding the photo was over sharpen despite the photo has been added to the active database.

Is a second rework to re-sharpen the addressed photo shall be done? Will it affect my Views and the albums that other spotters added my discussed photo to it?

Best Regards to the Administrators and have a Nice Day.

No, it will not. Any improved photos uploaded using the Re-Upload feature will simply replace the image. Not the views, albums, or anything else.

Dear Administrators,

Prior to my inquiry, I would like to say my deepest gratitude regarding the extension of my upload slots. I would like to ask about the requirements of upload slots extension. Are there any prerequisites required to have an extended upload slots? I wasn't expecting about the extension that my slots were upgraded to 15 photos. Hope my fellow AirFighters friends will understand how to have extended upload slots.

Best Regards.

Hello Raihan,

The more photos you have accepted, that will increase as well, eventually to 50 photos. Of course, you can get a Platinum membership which does not have a limit.
